Cabinet reshuffle: Presidency to inject “strong” Ministers to challenge anti-Jonathan Governors

Indications have emerged that President Goodluck Jonathan’s is keen about injecting “strong” politicians, who can curb the influence of governors of their respective states, into his new cabinet.
DailyPost has gathered that the Presidency will soon announce a re-shuffle in the Federal Executive Council.

A source said once the ongoing Ministerial briefing to mark Mr. Jonathan’s two years in office is concluded, the cabinet may be dissolved.
The move to bring in Ministers that have strong political base in their states was necessitated by the “stubbornness” of some state governors, especially those under the People’s Democratic Party, who are opposed to the second term ambition of the President.
The President, it was learnt, last year started the process of replacing some of his cabinet members, when he directed the National Working Committee,NWC, of the PDP to interview his ministers and weigh their level of performance.
The NWC had since completed that assignment and written to him.
Except he decides otherwise, the President may use the NWC report to carry out his reshuffling.
DailyPost gathered that the situation in Rivers State, where Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, is seeking to dispose Governor Rotimi Amaechi as leader of the PDP in Rivers, is a reference point of the new strategy.
PDP Governors presently not in the support are Amaechi of Rivers State, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, Saidu Nasamu Dakingari of Kebbi State and Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State.
Also, Minister from states controlled by the opposition, but seen not to be active in the affairs of their states’ PDP chapters may be dropped.
The leadership of the ruling party, which says it will instill discipline on its members at all cost, has in the meantime suspended two of its governors. They are Rotimi Amaechi and Aliyu Wamakko.
DailyPost was informed by a reliable source that more PDP governors have been pencilled down for such treatment.
The crisis in the party degenerated after the controversial Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, on May 24.
The Forum has since been divided against itself with Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State, a candidate with the backing of the presidency, heading one, while Governor Amaechi is leading the other.
